Today is Feature Friday with our Guest, Interior Designer Sarah Thomas, and we are taking her advice on Kitchen Design! Sarah Thomas is an Interior Designer from Cincinnati, OH working with Evolo Design. She holds a B.S. in Interior Design Technology from IUPUI, Indianapolis, and has been LEED AP certified since 2009. Sarah has an intense passion for all things design, and enjoys working with clients to realize their vision. Whether it is a living room, kitchen, or master bathroom, she loves to help bring clients’ ideas to life.
On all things Kitchens, Sarah fills us in on the best attributes for your Kitchen Project: ”We all know that the kitchen is the epicenter of the home. Why not make sure that your kitchen is beautiful while also extremely functional at the same time? Lucky for you, this can be easily achieved.
I think some of the most beautiful kitchens are ones that have crisp, clean countertops and simple (yet very creatively functional) cabinets. The choices these days for granite, quartz, and other stone are not only beautiful but endless. Granite and other stones on their own can speak for themselves in a kitchen. These stones can, and often do, work as pieces of art in the kitchen, along with serving as functional workspaces. Besides the initial and necessary design of the space, I think choosing your countertop is the best jumping off point for the entire kitchen scheme.
Cabinetry is the other article in the room that plays a major part in the entire kitchen plan. Cabinets can be very ornate, very simple or somewhere in the middle. I prefer to err on the side of simple. This allows their beauty and craftsmanship shine through but not over power the whole look of the kitchen.
